A team of Assam Police, accompanied by Delhi Police officials, visited Congress leader Pawan Khera’s residence in Delhi’s Nizamuddin East on Tuesday morning, days after he made allegations against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife.

Khera, who heads the Congress party’s Media and Publicity Department, was not present at the time of the search. Police officials said a search of the premises was carried out, and electronic devices were seized.

Speaking to reporters outside the residence, Assam Police DCP Debojit Nath said that while Khera was not found at home, certain materials had been recovered during the search. He described them as “incriminating,” but declined to share further details, citing the ongoing investigation. The police team left the premises shortly after 1 pm.

The development comes days after Khera, during a press conference, alleged that Chief Minister Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, holds three passports and that the family has business interests in the United States worth ₹52,000 crore.

Following the allegations, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma filed an FIR on Monday, prompting police action.

Reacting to the developments, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that Khera had fled Guwahati and was now in Hyderabad. “I have come to know through the media that the police have gone to his residence in Delhi, but he has run away. The law will take its own course,” he told news agency ANI.

The police action has drawn sharp criticism from Congress. Party leader Jairam Ramesh described the move as a “witch hunt,” alleging that the deployment of police forces against Khera for raising questions in the public domain reflected political desperation.
