Shiv Sena’s Sikh President in Maharashtra, Sardar Gurjyot Singh, strongly condemned the “blatant disrespect” shown towards Gurbani by the makers of Dhurandhar 2.
He said, “Gurbani is not mere dialogue; it is divine, sacred, and holds immense spiritual significance for the Sikh community. Such irresponsible depiction reflects ignorance and a lack of sensitivity towards our faith.”
Sardar Gurjyot Singh further said that portraying a character, played by R. Madhavan, smoking a cigarette while reciting the sacred Gurbani line, “Sura so pehchaniye jo lade deen ke het” from the Dasam Granth Sahib, attributed to Guru Gobind Singh Ji, is deeply offensive and unacceptable.
He added that such a depiction is as hurtful to the Sikh community as scenes in films showing a person consuming beef while invoking the name of Shri Ram. Demanding immediate removal of the scene, he cautioned that past incidents have shown how strongly the Sikh community responds to such perceived insults.
The Shiv Sena leader also urged the Sikh community to remain united and protest peacefully against the issue, calling for black flag demonstrations against Aditya Dhar, R. Madhavan, and Ranveer Singh wherever they appear, if they fail to issue a sincere apology to the SGPC and the community.
Amid disruptions during paid review shows, the film has set new benchmarks earning 450 crore within four days.
