A 75-year-old woman was killed in a tragic accident on Tuesday morning when a BEST electric bus rammed into a parked car near the Sahyadri State Guest House, pushing the vehicle forward and fatally injuring her.
The deceased has been identified as Neeta Nitin Shah, who was reportedly out for her routine morning walk at the time of the incident.
According to BEST officials, the incident occurred at around 9:10 am when the bus, operating on Route 105 from Vijay Vallabh Chowk to Kamala Nehru Park, collided with a stationary car on the left side of the road. The bus, bearing registration number MH01EM1162 and attached to the Mumbai Central Depot on wet lease from EV Trans, was in the “down” direction when the mishap took place.
Preliminary reports suggest that Shah came into contact with the bus’s left rear tyre, sustaining a severe head injury. Police personnel present at the site immediately rushed her to J.J. Hospital, where Dr. Snehal Jadhav declared her dead before admission at 10:37 am.
Eyewitnesses claimed the bus was moving at considerable speed before the collision. “It all happened in a flash. The woman didn’t even get a chance to react,” said a local resident.
BEST Accident Officer along with enquiry inspectors and EV Trans officials, attended the scene. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
