West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a sharp political attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Eid celebrations in Kolkata, accusing him of being the “biggest infiltrator” while asserting that her government “won’t let them snatch people’s rights.” Her remarks come amid escalating tensions over voter roll revisions ahead of the state elections, with the Trinamool Congress alleging a larger conspiracy to disenfranchise voters.
"Those who target Bengal will go to hell. PM (Narendra) Modi and his government are the biggest infiltrators," Mamata said.
Addressing a large Eid gathering, Mamata Banerjee intensified her criticism of the BJP-led Centre, alleging that recent electoral roll scrutiny is part of a broader attempt to influence the upcoming elections. She described the Prime Minister as the “real infiltrator,” turning the BJP’s narrative back on itself and warning against what she sees as interference in Bengal’s democratic process. This comes as BJP second-in-command, Home Minister Amit Shah, repeatedly asserted that infiltrators are one of the biggest issues in Bengal due to which he repeatedly stressed on necessity of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state.
Banerjee also accused the Centre of trying to strip citizens of their voting rights, particularly through the ongoing revision of electoral rolls. Reframing her remarks, she said her government would stand firm and not allow anyone to take away democratic entitlements, adding that the fight is to protect every voter regardless of religion or background.
She further positioned herself as a protector of inclusive politics, emphasizing that she would continue to stand by people “from all communities” even if others do not. The chief minister suggested that the alleged deletion of names from voter lists is unjust and vowed to challenge it through legal and political means.
“We will not let Modi ji snatch away our rights...You are trying to forcibly control our Govt, you want to impose President's Rule. Still, we won't be scared. Jo darte hain, wo marte hain. Jo ladte hain, wo zindagi mein kamyab hote hain...BJP is a party of thieves and goons, a party of traitors...There are also traitors who take money from BJP to divide votes,” CM said from the stage.
At the same event, Banerjee also took aim at what she described as double standards, implying that while global outreach projects an image of inclusivity, actions back home contradict that stance.
Her speech, delivered during a major religious gathering, underscores the sharpening political rhetoric in West Bengal as elections approach, with both sides trading allegations over democracy, identity, and voter rights.
